Accounting Technician, 1-year Certificate

This one-year certificate program will help you learn the accounting skills that are demanded by the accounting industry and business. You will then further develop your technical skills by taking courses in accounting, payrole, taxation and computer applications.

Graduates of the Accounting Technician certificate program will be employable in all business sectors. Their skills will allow them to work independently, in a small or medium-sized business or in large companies and public practice firms in specialized to broad accounting areas such as accounting technicians, accounts receivable/accounts payable clerks, and payroll clerks. Students are also eligible to continue their studies by earning a two-year business diploma, a four-year business degree, and an accounting designation (CPA).

Admission Requirements:

High school diploma with a minimum of 50% in:

  • English 30-1 or English 30-2
  • Math 30-1 or Math 30-2

Out-of-province applicants or those not meeting the admission requirements should refer to the Admissions section of the website.

Program residency is set at three courses. Students are able to seek transfer credit for related course work from other post-secondary institutions.

Online or distance delivery of a variety of courses is available from Alberta post-secondary institutions which can be used to fulfill program course requirements.

Graduation Requirements:

Students completing the requirements with a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 will be awarded an Accounting Technician certificate.
