Community Mental Health, 1-year Certificate

The Community Mental Health certificate prepares individuals to work with infants through to seniors. The program will focus on awareness and prevention, supportive intervention and treatment strategies to promote mental health wellness. The practicum is a hands-on application of the program content. Graduates are generally employed in long-term care, addictions, penal systems, emergency services and community agencies.

Admission Requirements:

Direct Entry:
Completion of a minimum of 30 post-secondary credits, in human service-related studies, from a public, accredited institution
Indirect Entry: 
Completion of a minimum of 30 post-secondary credits from a public, accredited institution, plus a minimum of 3 years full-time experience working in the human services field.
All applicants, regardless of citizenship of country of origin, must meet our English Language Proficiency requirement. Out-of-province applicants or those not meeting the admission and/or program requirements should refer to the Admissions section of the website.

Program / Practicum Placement Requiements:

  • A clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector check.through the RCMP in their hometown. Practicum agencies will require a clear criminal record check and may require an Intervention Record Check. 
  • Students must be in good standing and meet the 2.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) requirement to be eligible to complete practicum/clinical experience.

Graduation Requirements:

Students completing the requirements with a minimum GPA of 2.00 will be awarded a Community Mental Health certificate.
