HS 271 - ECE Online Field Placement IV 5 Credits Outline Effective Date 2024 Fall Course Description: This course is the concluding practicum of the second year Early Childhood Education program. Reflecting and building on their learning experiences of the previous practicum, students plan, set up, implement, and evaluate an early learning and childcare program with guidance from supervising personnel. P/F.
Rationale: This is a required course for Early Childhood Education diploma students. A Practicum provides students with opportunities to observe, develop, implement, and evaluate their interactions with children, parents, and colleagues. This experience also allows students to apply the knowledge they have gained from the Early Childhood Education program. Students use a virtual space to set up, implement and evaluate early childhood curriculum. Students explore program planning and reflective practice opportunities that help them be successful and motivated while working in childcare.
Prerequisites: HS 270 Corequisites: Students must have completed or be in the process of completing 8 diploma courses in Early Childhood Education diploma with an overall GPA of 2.0 or greater.

Conduct of Course: Students spend four weeks in a virtual childcare that provides opportunity for supervisory experiences:

Due to the fact that this course is online, attendance is demonstrated by keeping up with readings and assignments, participation in dialogue on the discussion board and completing course work and assignments to the satisfaction of the instructor.
In cases where illness impedes participation, the student may be requested to submit a medical certificate.
Course Assessments: Students are evaluated through constructive feedback from the instructor, and reflective self-evaluation. Practicum is an opportunity to apply the course materials learned during the past two years of study in the early learning and childcare program. A Pass/Fail grade is awarded upon completion of all components of the practicum.
