Course Description: This course looks at E-commerce from a managerial perspective. Topics include an introduction to the intranet and extranet technologies, retailing (Business-to-Consumer, Business-to-Business, payment systems, corporate strategy, public policy, and global and ethical issues.
Rationale: This is an elective for all Business majors. With the growing use of the internet for personal and business applications, background knowledge of its potential assists students as they enter the business world.
Prerequisites: CU 248 Corequisites: None
Course Learning Outcomes: A student who successfully completes the course will have reliably demonstrated the ability to
1.define various key terms relating to e-commerce.
2.explain the differences and similarities between brick and mortar and virtual retailing operations.
3.identify the range of technology infrastructure for e-commerce.
4.demonstrate a basic competency in web-page design, creation and management.
5.differentiate between B2B and B2C operations and discuss the main components of each.
6.discuss various policy issues relating to e-commerce and internet usage.
7.assess the use and propose ideas for the management of social media in the workplace.

Conduct of Course: To enhance the experiential learning environment of this course and to stimulate discussion and thought, this class is composed of both lecture content and collaborative activities. Students will work independently through online discussions and assignments, using web-based resources
All activities are conducted on the assumption that each student has adequately prepared the required material in advance.
Regular engagement with course materials and activities is essential for success in this course. In cases of repeated non-participation due to illness, the student may be requested to submit a medical certificate.
